Joint defending champions the Cheetahs and the Bulls got their Absa Currie Cup campaign off to a good start at the weekend.

The Bulls made use of their home advantage to dispose of the Falcons from Ekurhuleni 43-26 in an entertaining game at Loftus on Friday night.

Captain Wikus van Heerden, the former Golden Lions player, registered two tries for his new side (the Bulls). On the same day, the Cheetahs went on the rampage when they trounced Boland Cavaliers 91-3 in a one-sided game at Free State Stadium.

The Cheetahs and the Bulls have five points each after collecting bonus points. But the Free State lot are on top of the log with better points difference.

At Newlands Stadium, hosts Western Province beat the Golden Lions from Gauteng 18-13 in closely fought match on Saturday. Both the Lions and the Falcons are lying at the bottom of the log table.
