Mpho Mashinini has urged the youth of Soweto to continue supporting Youth Day and to get involved in sport in numbers.

He made this passionate plea after an exciting Tsietsi Mashinini soccer tournament held at White City in Soweto last week.

The main aim of the tournament is to celebrate and recognise the contribution and sacrifices of the students of 1976.

Mashinini said he was quite impressed by the great support from the youth and the community. He said youth should move away from crime, drugs, alcohol and substance abuse by getting involved in sport.

In the senior section, Selelekela High School from Meadowlands were R10000 richer after beating JM Classic 8-7 in a penalty shootout in the final, while the latter received R5000. Both teams were also presented with medals.

Mofolo Leeds won the Under-17 section and received a trophy, medals and R5000. Runners-up Naledi FC got R3000 and medals.
