A prominent Pretoria taxi owner was gunned down in a Mafia-style killing in Atteridgeville at the weekend.

A prominent Pretoria taxi owner was gunned down in a Mafia-style killing in Atteridgeville at the weekend.

Hosia Shime Sithole, 60, popularly known as "Brother", died in a hail of bullets while sitting with a friend in his luxury German car in Manaka Street at about 6.40pm on Saturday.

Pretoria police spokesman Paul Ramaloko said an AK-47 assault rifle was used in the attack.

Ramaloko said the friend escaped unhurt. The motive for the attack was unknown.

Sithole's wife, Noko, said her husband received a phone call and left saying he would be back.

Sithole played as a striker in the early 1970s for Pretoria Callies. He played alongside soccer greats such as Goodman "Benny Kusasa" Kgatle and Norman Nzama. - McKeed Kotlolo
