Sour grapes at SABC

The bleating from SABC headquarters in Auckland Park sounds ever more like the vacuous petulance of bad losers.

The bleating from SABC headquarters in Auckland Park sounds ever more like the vacuous petulance of bad losers.

If the SABC feels so strongly about its role as a public service broadcaster to bring the people's game to the people why oh why did it not submit the winning bid?

The PSL put the contract out to tender; the SABC, filled with a vainglorious sense of entitlement and its own importance, tried to win the rights in court - and lost.

SuperSport won the broadcast rights, but that does not mean PSL games will be available only to the privileged few who can afford satellite TV.

The SABC is misusing its news shows as a forum to present a false one-sided picture of the saga. If you only watched SABC to get your news you would mistakenly believe that no PSL games will be broadcast free.

The PSL contract specifically states that 150 games will be available free to air.

You can argue that we have lost much in the headlong rush to commercialise sport. The SABC has played a big role in this and we never heard a bleat about it while the bucks rolled in to the public broadcaster.

Well, guys, the chickens have come home to roost. Cough up the cash for the free-to-air games with the best grace you can muster, or pipe down and someone else will.
