Limpopo's best community builders for this year were chosen and honoured in Thohoyandou at the weekend.

They are youth category winner Mafemani Mabunda, group section victor Motsilu Boima, Noria Mabunda who triumphed in the adult category and Leah Dlomu who topped in the seniors section.

This foursome have qualified for the national short-listing of the Community Builder of the Year Award, which is due to be held in Johannesburg on August 16 and 17.

It is sponsored and organised by Sowetan, SABC, Old Mutual and the nine provincial social services and development departments. They recognise men and women who unselfishly give of their time and talent to improve the quality of life for others in their communities. They motivate and inspire others to become part of the nation-building process.

In the short-listing, three finalists each from the youth, adult, senior and group categories are selected from the 36 provincial winners. The 12 finalists will be announced on Carol Bauer's Motswako programme - a women's motivational, inspirational and development show on SABC2 on August 30.

The names of the provincial winners for KwaZulu-Natal are due to be announced soon. -Victor Mecoamere
