Residents of an informal settlement in Durban Deep, west of Johannesburg, spent another cold day yesterday among the heaps of what remained of their demolished shacks following their eviction by theRed Ants on Wednesday.

Some of them tried to rebuild their destroyed shacks yesterday after spending the night in the bush in Roodepoort.

Several people were left homeless with no home to stay. They spend the first . Others claimed that police shot at them.

The residents said they were opposed to the evictions and accused the government of "selling out" poor people after promising them alternative housing.- Sapa
