The DA's Frans Letwaba has accused the municipal manager of Capricorn district municipality, Merriam Molala, of "lacking integrity and ethical conduct".

Other officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, claimed that Molala was "in the habit of not consulting relevant organs" in Capricorn before making decisions.

They accused Molala of running the municipality like a spaza shop. The disgruntled officials said Molala's leadership style was "setting back the municipality".

But mayor Motalane Monakedi said the allegations were baseless.

He said he was happy with Molala's performance, but noted that she needed to improve some aspects of her duties.

Before Molala became municipal manager last November, Capricorn was said to be one of the best-performing municipalities in the country.

Molala could not be contacted for comment.
