Thobela FM, a Limpopo-based SABC radio station, is set to benefit from the current strike by public servants.

This follows a call by Cosatu in the province to its members to donate clothes to the radio station for distribution to the poor.

The station is celebrating its 47th anniversary this month and as part of the celebrationsit will collect clothes to be donated to poor communities.

Cosatu chairman in Limpopo, Willie Mokwalakwala, said yesterday that the union supported the station's idea.

They had urged their members to bring clothes that they no longer used whenever they went to meetings to discuss the strike.

The union's meetings since the strike started have been held near SABC Park in Polokwane.

"We resolved to help Thobela FM in its cause to better the lives of vulnerable people in our province," said Mokwalakwala.

"Families that are struggling should be assisted so they too can enjoy their lives."

Cosatu also asked members to donate blankets and food parcels.

Thobela FM station manager Leuba Ramakgolo said they welcomed gifts from listeners.

He said the station was determined to plough back into the communities by helping impoverished families.
