A minibus taxi and a truck collided head-on on the N12 near Wolmaransstad yesterday, leaving five people dead and one injured, North West police said.

A minibus taxi and a truck collided head-on on the N12 near Wolmaransstad yesterday, leaving five people dead and one injured, North West police said.

Superintendent Emmanuel Reetsang said: "The truck was travelling from Wolmaransstad at about 10.40pm. It was 40km from Klerksdorp when it collided head-on with a taxi travelling in the opposite direction. It was not clear who was at fault," he said.

"The minibus had five occupants, including the driver. Two of these were schoolchildren. Everyone in the minibus died instantly on the scene." The truck driver's assistant's right leg was broken and he was taken to hospital. - Sapa
