Mbatha has overcome
Gospel artist Nyaka Mbatha, pictured, is over the moon following the recent release of his debut gospel album Mlilo We Vangeli.
He has every reason to feel so.
Released three weeks ago, the 10-track album marks his arrival on the gospel music scene in general, and traditional Zion-type gospel in particular.
After toiling for many years trying to secure a recording deal, Mbatha met music producer Chris Orakwue last year. This changed his fortune.
"I have been trying to clinch a recording deal since 2000, without success. I have tried, without success, to meet some of the leading gospel musicians in business such Vuyo Mokoena, Rebecca Malope and Lundi Tyamara.
"However, when I met Chris, he listened to my demo patiently. He then took me into the studio, and the result is this album. which is now available at all leading CD stores.
"The CD is getting a lot of exposure on Ikwekwezi, Ukhozi and community radio stations. It has also received exposure on television gospel shows such as e.tv's GospelGrooves and SABC's Crux.
"The track that I like most is Ziyosulwa Inyembezi. This one gives people hope. It says that no matter how tough the situation is, they must fight on, for the heavens will smile on them, and they will overcome. People must know that darkness will surely be followed by light," says Mbatha.
