Blame arrogant SABC instead of PSL bosses

The issue of broadcasting rights for covering PSL games has nothing to do with capitalism but rather the arrogance of the SABC.

The SABC had the option to tender, but decided against it and the strategy backfired.

I agree with people who say that legally there is nothing wrong with the PSL position as far as negotiations and arbitration are concerned.

While there is no guarantee that giving the broadcasting rights to SuperSport will improve the quality of football, it might lead to more spectators attending the games. Spectators still pay R20 for matches today - the same as they have been paying for more than 12 years.

What Pugiso does not understand is that the broadcasting rights given to SuperSport come with obligations. Some important games, including derbies and cup finals, must be made available to the free channels for broadcasting.

This means that the SABC and e.tv will have the opportunity of acquiring rights for those games from SuperSport.

I just hope that the SABC will move swiftly and acquire those rights before e.tv does. It is now up to the SABC to decide if it wants those rights for derby's and finals or not. Let's watch this space.
