Police in Giyani have arrested a 29-year-old Johannesburg man in connection with the fatal shooting of a queue marshal at the town's main bus terminus this week.

Magezi Chauke, 34, who directed passengers on to buses that run between Giyani in Limpopo and Johannesburg, died in a hail of bullets when he was attacked by unknown gunmen.

Locals suspect the pre-dawn attack could be linked to an ongoing feud between bus and taxi owners over routes to and from Johannesburg.

Police spokesman Superintendent Moatshe Ngoepe said yesterday they were following all possible leads.

He said they had no tangible evidence linking Chauke's killing to the bus and taxi feud.

Witnesses told police that an unknown number of gunmen emerged "from nowhere" and opened fire on Chauke.

He tried to run, but collapsed and died on the scene.

Ngoepe appealed to members of the public to come forward with information that could help the police investigations.

He asked that they contact their nearest police station.
