Murder accused DJ in limbo

Frank Maponya

Popular former Munghana Lonene FM DJ Brian Rikhotso was not involved in the murder of Pastor Musa Maluleke, his lawyer Ralph Ndleve said yesterday.

Rikhotso will only know in two weeks if murder charges against him will be withdrawn.

The Polokwane magistrates' court heard yesterday that a response from the office of the director for public prosecutions (DPP) would only be available to the court on July 5.

Rikhotsois charged along with Samuel Mukansiwith the murder of Maluleke at the Limpopo Legislature in February.

Mukansi is in police custody and Rikhotso is out on R3000 bail. Mukansi faces other unrelated charges, including escaping from custody.

Rikhotso's lawyer Ndleve had earlier applied to the court for the withdrawal of the murder charges against his client, arguing that there was no substantial evidence linking Rikhotso to the murder of Maluleke.

Ndleve objected to a further postponement, saying the DPP had ample time to make a decision. He had made the application during his client's last court appearance on May 23.

Prosecutor Benny Molepo said the DPP had only informed the prosecution yesterday that the decision would only be made known in two weeks' time. Mukansi is expected to appear in court again on June 28 to apply for bail.
