Chief Mwelo Nonkonyane, SA Football Limited executive chairman, has taken over the reins as acting chief executive officer of the Safa commercial wing.

The appointment came after former journalist Sbu Mngadi resigned as acting chief executive of the organisation yesterday.

This was after a strongly worded letter from Molefi Oliphant, Safa president, reminding him that it was the federation's duty to organise matches for the national teams.

The letter came after Mngadi allegedly organised an away international friendly between Bafana Bafana and Columbia last weekend.

That arrangement would have resulted in Safa sending an Under-23 national team as Bafana Bafana were in Pointe Noire for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

As a result of the letter from Oliphant, the match in Columbia was cancelled.

Mngadi, who joined the commercial wing three months ago, submitted his resignation letter yesterday. - Ramatsiyi Moholoa
