Community development practitioners of all ages are being sought as part of the corporate social investment and responsibility philosophy of Sowetan and the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation.

This partnership, known as the Community Builder of the Year Award, started in 1991. It unites Sowetan's readers and the foundation, together with Old Mutual's clients, the SABC's listeners and viewers, and the nine provincial Social Services Departments.

Provincial eliminations started in Gauteng on June 7 and 8 and will end in North West on August 2 and 3. Winners in each category receive R10000.

On August 16 a national short-listing process will be held.

From this, 12 finalists, who will then qualify for the national finals, will be selected from 36 provincial winners. There will be three each from the youth, adult, senior and group categories.

The overall winner will be given R100000 for their project.

The four category winners will each receive R50000 for their projects. Each category winner will also be given a R15000 personal prize.

The eight other finalists will get R10000 each.
