Former PAC president Motsoko Pheko is in trouble with the organisation.
Sowetan has it on good authority that Pheko, who is also a member of parliament, will appear before the party's disciplinary committee tomorrow to explain how certainunaccounted-for party funds were used.
According to reliable sources in the party, Pheko faces allegations of misappropriating and diverting party funds.
It is alleged that during his term as party head, funds from donors were re-directed from party coffers into the Sobukwe Trust Fund.
Pheko allegedly closed the Sobukwe Trust Fund in March when he handed over the party accounts to the present leadership.
It is alleged that funds given yearly to the party by a donor, who has requested anonymity, were re-directed to the Sobukwe Trust Fund and had not been accounted for.
It is alleged that the same donor made at least three instalments of huge amounts during Pheko's tenure.
Sources said Pheko could also face an additional charge of bringing the party into disrepute for his alleged involvement in the parliamentary travel voucher scam.
At one stage liquidators were said to be trying to recoup R500000 from the PAC.
Pheko's attempts to retain the party's highest position were thwarted last year during a congress held in Qwaqwa, Free State.
Delegates voted overwhelmingly for former PAC armed wing commander Letlapa Mphahlele to become party leader.
Party spokesman Mudini Maivha refused to confirm that Pheko had been charged, but told Sowetan that there was an ongoing investigation to verify party assets.
"We have had an ongoing process to find out from people with information about the assets and finances of the organisation.
"This is an internal process. A decision will be taken when everything has been concluded on whether we make anything public or not," Maivha said.
Pheko was not available to comment, but his sympathisers told Sowetan that there was wider plan to purge the party of people perceived not to be supportive of Mphahlele's leadership.
Pheko has made it clear that he will not appear before the disciplinary committee because the whole aim is to humiliate him.
"He is the former president of our movement and will not accept being treated with disrespect," said a sympathiser.
