No fear, no favour

The police's slow pace in probing the assault of a pregnant woman by one of their colleagues boggles the mind.

Two months after Paulina Mathikge laid a charge at Ekurhuleni's Tembisa police station against her assailant, the culprit has still not been brought to book. This despite the alleged assault being captured on video.

Mathikge, who was five months' pregnant at the time, was allegedly smacked and dragged by a policeman during a raid at her workplace. Surprisingly, she has not been contacted by the police since.

Why is the police probe taking such a long time? Are they dragging their feet because one of their own is the prime suspect?

Underlying these questions are suspicions that there is a deliberate police cover-up.

To disprove this theory, let them bring a swift conclusion to this matter.
