Free State Stars got the preparations for their return to the Premiership off to a flying start by scooping highly rated striker Amos Ngcobo.

The arrival of Ngcobo in Phuthaditjhaba was confirmed yesterday by Mike "Ho Jewa Batho" Mokoena, chairman of Ea Lla Koto.

Ngcobo joined the National First Division League champions from Durban Stars, where he spent the past season on loan from AmaZulu.

The deadly Ngcobo won the Mvela Golden League top goalscorer award with Diyo Sibisi, his new teammate at Stars. They netted 19 times.

"We have completed the negotiations with the boy, he is now the property of Free State Stars. We got permission to talk to him from AmaZulu," said an elated Mokoena.

"We are excited to have signed an aggressive player of Amos's calibre. We are convinced he will continue banging the goals in for us in the Premiership. There are many other equally good players that we are talking to, to join us in the new season. We will be finalising the negotiations in the next two weeks.

"I have no doubt that we will assemble a formidable squad that will make the people of Free State and our supporters throughout the country happy.

"Our aim is to challenge for the league title," said Mokoena, who announced that their players were expected to report for pre-season training today.

"We expect everybody back in camp on Sunday night, including those who will represent their respective countries this weekend."

Mokoena also confirmed that Nigerian Lucky Gasper and Mashudu Malesa have been offloaded. Solly Nketle has returned to neighbours Bloemfontein Celtic.

The Stars boss lauded veteran midfielder Duncan "The King" Lechesa for contributing to Ea Lla Koto's return to the Premiership.

Rantsi Mokoena, Stars' brand manager, said they were going to play a series of games, including a four- club tournament that will also feature Celtic at the end of the month.
