The Umsobomvu Youth Fund, the eThekwini municipality, KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development and the Youth Entrepreneurship Campaign 2010 will host the 4th Annual Entrepreneurship Development Conference next week.

The conference, which will be held at the Durban International Convention Centre from Tuesday, seeks to create a platform for various stakeholders in the entrepreneurship development sector to share and debate ideas, practices and models that would contribute to the increase of entrepreneurship among youth.

In 2005 the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor survey revealed that South Africa had one of the lowest levels of the total entrepreneurial activity. In South Africa it was only 51percent compared with Uganda's 31,6percent.

Malose Kekana, chief executive of Umsobomvu, said: "The situation did not improve much last year because South Africa was only at a level of 5,29percent.

"The conference is one of the innovative ways to promote a culture of entrepreneurship among young South Africans."

The focus of this year's conference will be the promoting and sustaining youth entrepreneurship in the run-up to the 2010 World Cup and beyond.

The conference's theme is Unleashing Youth Entrepreneurship Towards 2010 and Beyond.
