Orlando Pirates Apprentice Academy will celebrate Youth Day with a development tournament at the Arthur Block sports grounds in Mayfair tomorrow.

Augusto "Njenje" Palacios, Pirates' technical director, said eight clubs had been invited to the tournament.

"We have already sent out the invitations and those clubs who have confirmed their participation, we expect them to register at 8.30am on Saturday [tomorrow]. We do not expect new clubs. It will be an eight-a-side tournament. We cater for three categories - the Under-8s, nines and 11s.

"We thought it will be a great thing to organise a tournament where our children will be part of the Youth Day celebrations. As for the other age groups within the academy, we want to make it clear that it will be business as usual for them in terms of training on Saturday."

Meanwhile, the Tsietsi Mashinini Soccer Tournament will be played in White City tomorrow. Finals take place on Sunday. This third yearly tournament is held in honour of Mashinini, who was one of the leaders of the 1976 Soweto uprisings.

l Woodpeckers, an amateur soccer club in Orlando West playing in Safa Johannesburg Promotional League, have organised trials at Shanty Grounds on June 23 and 24.

Peter Tshabalala, coach of the club, said: "The trials are for youngsters between 16 to 25. We will start between 9.30am to 3pm on both days."
