All that Tshepo Molefi ,27, wanted was R1500 but instead he ended up in hospital after being shot and wounded in a drive-by shooting.
Molefi, of Mohlakeng, in Randfontein on the West Rand, told Sowetan yesterday he was still shocked and recovering in pain.
He said the bullets struck him in the stomach and leg.
The incident happened on June 2 at Bapsfontein Road, Cullinan, the same day that 11-year-old Moloantoa Mokoena of Tembisa was shot dead in a drive-by shooting.
Two brothers, Jacobus van der Walt, 37, and Jan Deon van der Walt, 34, have since been arrested over the incidents.
They both appeared in the Welbekend magistrates' court this week.
They are charged with young Moloantoa's murder and the attempted murder of five of his family members.
Molefi was in Cullinan at the request of Queen Mosiane, chief executive of Lentswe Grass Cutting Company. Mosiane was going to pay him R1500 for three days' work for transporting grass cutters to Cullinan, east of Pretoria.
After work at about 10.30pm, Molefi said he was walking with a friend, known only as Solomon, to the shops to buy some drinks.
"We saw a white Ford Ranger parked on Bapsfontein Road. We were about to pass the car when we heard loud gunshots. A few minutes later I discovered that I had been shot in the stomach and leg. Solomon had been shot in the leg," he said.
Molefi said he "crawled away and screamed" for help.
"The people who were in Cullinan camp, where I had booked for the night, came to my rescue. I was then taken to Pretoria Academic Hospital.
"I was discharged after a week, on June 9," Molefi said.
Jan Deon is employed as a security guard by Spoornet. He was granted R10000 bail.
His brother Jacobus, who faces murder and attempted murder charges, was refused bail.
The two will appear in court again on June 20 and July 4 respectively.They are in police custody after they were re-arrested for the shooting of Molefi and his friend.
