Police in KwaMbonambi, near Mtubatuba in northern Zululand, have launched a massive manhunt for the killers of two men whose badly decomposed bodies were found floating in the Msunduze River near Umfolozi Farm.

Umfolozi police spokesman Captain Jabulani Mdletshe said yesterday a passer-by had spotted the bodies floating in the river on Monday, but they could only be removed on Tuesday.

"The bodies were found floating in the river.

"Their throats had been slit and they were wrapped in black plastic bags," Mdletshe said.

He said the motive for the killings was unknown and urged people whose relatives were missing to come forward.

He said police suspected the bodies had been wrapped in plastic and dumped in the river after the two men were killed.

"The ages of the deceased could be between 25 and 40 and they could be from the same family.

"Though badly decomposed, the bodies can still be identified.

"At this stage, it is difficult to say what the motives for the murders could be.

"But we will leave no stone unturned to ensure we find and apprehend the killers," Mdletshe added.

He said police were also looking into the deaths of five other people murdered at Novunula township in December.

Mdletshe could not say if the latest double murder and the December killings were linked.

He said the Novunula victims, who included a child, had been burnt to death.

Anyone who has information about the two bodies, or who has relatives missing, is asked to contact their nearest police station.
