South Africa will be represented in 26 sporting codes at the All Africa Games in Algiers, Algeria, next month.
The Games are bound to be exciting and will run from July 11-23. Expectations are high in every sporting code.
The All Africa Games is important because it is very close to the Olympics in Beijing next year.
South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) president Moss Mashishi said it was with special pride that his organisation would be presenting a big team to take part in these continental games.
"Team SA will be consisting of 26 sporting codes and will feature in almost every field allocated for the games," he said.
"We can confidently state that our selection criteria were rigid and uncompromising as ever. In individual sports only those athletes ranked in the top three in Africa were selected.
"And if no ranking was available then recent performances in Africa were considered. To all athletes and their management, we will be behind you every step of the way.
"We are proud of you. You are our ambassadors," Mashishi said.
He added that in team sports the team had to win the zonal qualification and show potential to reach the semifinals.
Past championships and results were also a determining factor.
Among the sporting codes that will be represented are boxing, karate and soccer.
Boxing: Hecter Budler, Jackson Chauke, Ashley Dlamini, Owethu Mbira, Goodman Zanempi, Kwanele Zulu.
Soccer: Itumeleng Khune, Senzo Meyiwa, Tshepo Masilela, Innocent Mdledle, Thapelo Tshilo, Jeffrey Ntuka, Luvhengo Mungomeni, Nazeer Allie, James Madidilane, Bryce Moon, Masilo Modubi, Bernard Parker, Richard Rantjie, Lance Davids, Clifford Ngobeni, Sibusiso Hadebe, Lerato Chabangu, Lebohang Mokoena, Sibusiso Ntuli, Erwin Isaacs.
Karate: Jeffrey Jackson, Mario Boer, Eugene Oosthuizen, Carl Webster, Lewellyn Rhoda, Tammy Fry, Salaama Mohamed and Wendy Wannenberg.
