ANC deputy president Jacob Zuma has appealed to the government and striking workers to reach agreement because the country cannot afford other unions to join the public sector strike.

Zuma also warned workers about their behaviour, saying it could lose them sympathy. This was in sharp contrast to the SACP deputy general secretary Jeremy Cronin who said he supported "maximum solidarity" for the striking workers.

The two were yesterday addressing workers at Popcru's congress in Cape Town.
