Treated like dirt

The Extension of Security of Tenure Act of 1997 explicitly states that an employer or property owner should arrange alternative accommodation for people he evicts before applying for a court order.

The Extension of Security of Tenure Act of 1997 explicitly states that an employer or property owner should arrange alternative accommodation for people he evicts before applying for a court order.

Many white farm-owners, however, have arrogantly defied this law.

They have evicted black families who have been staying on farms for many years without affording them alternative accommodation.

Bednock Nkosi, 68, his wife Christina, 66, their two daughters and six grandchildren have been threatened with eviction on a farm in Amersfoort near Ermelo.

They have been staying there since 1994.

After Sowetan exposed their plight the farmer cut their water supply.

This should be condemned in the strongest terms.
