I would like to congratulate Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang for firing the striking nurses.

The striking nurses should revisit the decision to become nurses - because they could not make it in other "lucrative" careers.

I feel sorry for people whose relatives are in public hospitals. As the less fortunate who do not have medical aid, they will suffer the most.

The irony is that teachers who are on strike do not have children at public schools - their children attend private schools.

Striking nurses have medical aid and the police want special treatment for their relatives who are arrested.

The aim of the strike is to punish poor people. What happened to the pledge nurses, teachers and police officers took when they graduated?

Let the strike continue if public servants are truly committed. Perhaps the government should negotiate that, if it gives them what they want, teachers will have no problem with inspectors visiting their classes once a month to check their work and to make sure that the pass rate increases.

When this happens we will sympathise with the strikers. But until then, I suggest that they shut up and do their jobs properly.
