Striking civil servants yesterday vowed to continue with their strike, while provincial health departments continued to dismiss them for not reporting for work.

At Chris Hani-Baragwanath a list of those dismissed was issued. A nurse at Bara said she was not fazed that her name was on the list.

"I am fighting for my rights and therefore no one can terminate my contract," said Nokwazi Langa, 40.

Langa said it was the second time she had been fired - in 1992 she was sacked and was subsequently re-instated in 1994.

"The department even paid for my tuition fees so that I could improve my skills. I know that they need my services and they will reinstate me again," she said.

Johannesburg General Hospital fired 384 employees on Monday.

KwaZulu-Natal sacked 30 health employees yesterday. Provincial head of the health department Busi Nyembezi said she had proof that the sacked employees had been involved in intimidating other workers.

"These employees have forcefully prevented staff from performing their duties and also prevented patients from gaining access to hospitals. By doing so they compromised the healthcare service."

The fired employees consist of 21 general workers, six paramedics and three nurses.

She said more employees are expected to be served with dismissal letters if they don't return to work.

In Limpopo 1000 employees were fired on Monday.

Mpumalanga said it had started issuing dismissal letters to employees who had not returned to work.
