Sibongile Mazibuko, executive director of the 2010 World Cup in the city, said she was impressed with the preparations.
Speaking at a ceremony to welcome three top European players on Monday, Mazibuko said the city's track record in hosting global events was well documented.
The trio are Owen Hargreaves, who is joining Manchester United from Bayern Munich, Piotr Trochowski and Phillip Lahm.
"The City of Johannesburg hosted the Rugby World Cup and World Summit for Sustainable Development," said Mazibuko.
