Senior Western Cape provincial government, soccer leaders and businesspeople are expected to attend a 2010 World Cup conference in Cape Town today.

The day-long conference, scheduled to take place at a leading hotel in Milnerton, will deal with the economic spin-offs of the World Cup.

Whitey Jacobs, MEC for sports in the Western Cape, said the conference formed part of their preparations for the World Cup.

"We wanted Dr Danny Jordaan to be the guest speaker but we have been informed that he won't make it to the conference," said Jacobs.

In the absence of Jordaan, LOC communications manager and international relations liaison Tumi Makgabo is expected to deliver a keynote address.

Makgabo will deal with the provinces and the World Cup. Ebrahim Rasool, Western Cape Premier, will be the first speaker. Rasool will talk about the importance of the World Cup for the province. - Ramatsiyi Moholoa
