This year's Comrades Marathon should be about Johnny Demas.

This blind extraodinary man will be competing in his 20th Comrades. Remember, this is reputedly the most gruelling athletics event in the world.

His best time in the race is 10 hours and 29 minutes. This year he hopes to finish the race in nine hours.

About 12000 runners are expected to compete in the 92km marathon on June 17, from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.

For Vusi Mjolobane, 56, another blind athlete, this year will be the eighth year of taking part in the race.

Mjolobane said: "I've discovered a confidant in my running guide, Reginald Magijane. Through the marathon I have made friends with other people.

"My best time is 10 hours 53 minutes. I hope to better it this year."

The other two blind runners taking part in the race are Richard Mnisi and Stanley Maloka. They are sponsored by Imperial Car Rentals

In all 10 disabled athletes will take part in the marathon.
