Dimakatso Tlholo, of Doornkop in Soweto, is a happy woman after First National Bank reimbursed her R12000 that was stolen by criminals.
The bank decided to reimburse Tlholo after thoroughly investigating the matter.
Two months ago Sowetan reported her traumatic experience when thugs robbed her of R4000 in cash after deceiving her.
They then withdrew R8000 from her FNB account after tricking her into giving them her ATM card.
The thieves replaced her card and even increased her daily withdrawals limit, allegedly with the help of employees of the bank.
FNB spokesman Xolisa Vapai said the bank's forensic team had conducted a thorough investigation after enquiries by Sowetan.
"We reimbursed Tlholo and action is being taken against the officials who were negligent in issuing the replacement card," Vapai said.
The R12000 was from a loan Tlholo's husband had secured to renovate their house and to enable her to register for nursing.
Tlholo said her prayers had been answered when FNB informed her in a text message that it had refunded the money.
"I could not believe my eyes. I think I read the text message a 100 times.
"I couldn't sleep and that was when I started praying and thanking God for this," said Tlholo.
She said she was now looking forward to registering at a nursing college.
Tlholo has since opened a new account and the bank has replaced her ATM card with a new one.
