Promoter Branco Milenkovic wants Cassius Baloyi to defeat Manuel Medina next month and claim the vacant number one spot in the IBF junior lightweight rankings.

That victory will pave the way for the eagerly anticipated shootout between IBF champion Mzonke Fana and Baloyi. Milenkovic, who said he would promote that fight, announced that he will be at ringside at Emperors Palace on July 5 to spur Baloyi on to victory.

"I want Baloyi to defeat Medina so that Fana must defend against Baloyi. Nothing will please local fight fans than to see another local shootout between these two gladiators," said Milenkovic.

He promoted the fight between deposed IBF champion Malcolm Klassen and Fana in Cape Town in April.

The talkative promoter said South Africa would be the winner if Fana fought Baloyi.

"It is important for our country to have a legitimate world champion from one of the three most respected sanctioning bodies."

Milenkovic controls 11 national champions, eight WBC International champs and Fana.

The rematch, a must-win for Baloyi, will be staged by Rodney Berman of Golden Gloves Promotions.

The first fight was staged in the US in May last year by Berman's American associate, Art Pellulo, and Baloyi stopped Medina in 11 rounds to win the then vacant IBF belt.

Baloyi lost it two months later to Gairy St Clair, who was in turn dethroned four months later by Klassen, who lost to Fana on April 20.
