Residents of Moutse did not snub MEC Piitso

The article published in Sowetan of June 1 "No more talking - Moutse snubs MEC" refers. As the Limpopo department of roads and transport we would like to set the record straight on matters that implicitly suggested that the MEC, Justice Piitso, was snubbed by Moutse residents.

Firstly, Piitso had a successful meeting with leaders of various stakeholders at Philadelphia Hospital. Because of the intensity of the discussions, the meeting lasted much longer than expected. So it boggles the mind as to which community leaders actually refused to meet with him as reported.

When the MEC continued to meet residents at the OR Tambo Stadium, there were children who were standing at the gate, struggling to sing freedom songs. The moral fibre of the young people of the said area was nothing to write home about. Also, the level of sobriety of these children who were protesting outside the stadium was questionable and led to the concern raised by Moutse elders.

What the article elected not to mention is that scores of people from various parts of Moutse were blocked from getting access to the stadium. As a department we are convinced that we had a very successful meeting during which Piitso outlined the programmes aimed at improving the lives of the people of Limpopo in general and residents of Moutse in particular.
