Limpopo's Department of Health and Social Development is allegedly spending a lot of money on foreign nationals who are fraudulently receiving social grants.
This scam, involving Zimbabwean women, is reportedly taking place in Musina and surrounding areas. They are apparently conniving with local immigration officials.
The women were dubiously acquiring birth certificates for their children and illegally accessing social grants.
Department spokesman Phuti Seloba said the department was aware of the allegations and was in the process of investigating the alleged scam.
"Once there is concrete proof we will open a case with the police," Seloba said.
He said the department only approved applications for social grants if the applicants submitted proper documentation.
