A memorial lecture on the life of the late ANC Youth League president Peter Mokaba and the relevance of June 16 marked the celebration of the start of Youth Month in Limpopo at the weekend.
However, only a handful of the youth attended the event, which was held at the Ngoako Ramatlhodi sports complex in Seshego on Saturday.
The lack of response could have been attributed to the chilly conditions under an overcast Limpopo sky.
Another disappointment was the failure of former Mpumalanga premier Mathews Phosa to arrive for the occasion.
However, ANC Youth League president Fikile Mbalula arrived on time to deliver his keynote speech.
In a marathon speech, Mbalula highlighted the life and political will displayed by Mokaba.
"Comrade Peter was a true leader dedicated to his cause. He was also a soldier from the bottom of his heart in pursuit of taking the youth struggle further," he said.
