Pastor Fanie Ntsabane, 42, of the Resurrection Christian Church, lived up to his pastoral calling to the bitter end, says his neighbour and fellow church member Francinah Shebi.
Shebi said these words during a prayer service at Ntsabane's home in Shaleng village, near Itsoseng, North West, this week. She said Ntsabane was killed trying to help a friend and fellow pastor.
"When Pastor Meshack Selane called him at about three in the morning, telling him that he had run out of petrol, Ntsabane responded, leaving his wife and two children. The two never made it back home," Shebi said.
The two pastors died when the Toyota in which they were travelling collided with a BMW carrying eight people on the Mafikeng-to-Lichtenburg road on Sunday morning.
The BMW burst into flame on impact and two of its occupants were burnt beyond recognition. Others were thrown out of the vehicle and one died instantly.
The injured, three women and two men were rushed to Thusong and Bophelong hospitals.
One of the occupants of the BMW, Kedibone Moholo, 29, from Verdwaal near Itsoseng, died at Thusong Hospital on Tuesday, bringing the number of fatalities to six.
Other victims that the police were able to identify are Frans Molelekwa, 22, and Nathaniel Sosibo, 34.
Lichtenburg police spokesman Pauline Montwedi said the police were still trying to identify one charred body at the Lichtenburg government mortuary.
Ntsabane will be buried in Itsoseng township tomorrow and Selane will be buried in Ventersdorp on the same day.
