The R46million budgeted for water services in Moutse, Limpopo, by the Sekhukhune district municipality has been met with mixed feelings.
Some residents have even threatened to disrupt a visit by Justice Pitso, Limpopo MEC for roads and transport, to Dennilton tomorrow.
Pitso, who will speak at OR Tambo Stadium, is expected to outline development plans for the area.
In his budget speech at the weekend Sekhukhune mayor Dickson Masemola announced that his municipality had transferred R101,9million to the Elias Motswaledi municipality. Of that amount, a sum of R46million would be for water services.
While some residents welcomed the move, "anti-Limpopo" residents have described the move as "a strategy to buy them". They were referring to the incorporation of Moutse from Mpumalanga into Limpopo against their wishes.
William Rampisa, chairman of the Moutse Demarcation Forum, said: "We have advised the authorities that we don't want anything to do with Limpopo. This move is nothing other than a strategy [to buy us]," Rampisa said.
But Sello Bokaba, the DA chairman in Moutse West, welcomed the move. He said: "It is pleasing that the mayor has acknowledged our plight."
