The Lesotho Football Association has made it their responsibility to coordinate the 2010 World Cup preparations in the Mountain Kingdom.

"We are talking here about a soccer competition, the biggest in the world," said Mafole Sematlane, Lefa's chief executive.

Speaking to Sowetan from the Fifa-built Bambatha T'sita, Lefa's headquarters in Maseru, Sematlane said they were working closely with their government on 2010.

"There is a ministerial 2010 task committee [convened by the minister of sports, Mmathapelo Lepono] and we will be working with them and other stakeholders," Sematlane said.

"Some of the stakeholders we are working with are the tourism and culture sectors, businesspeople as well as hotels. There is no doubt that tourism will play a significant role in this regard. It is important that we, Basotho, should start working on our facilities.

"We won't benefit from the 2010 World Cup spin-offs if soccer is not directly involved in all the preparations. Part of my responsibilities as new CEO of Lefa is to coordinate the 2010 projects; we are going to make it an all-inclusive process. We had a fruitful meeting with the South African High Commission in Maseru on April 25 to discuss our readiness for 2010."
