Softball in Mpumalanga is growing in leaps and bounds, hence the formation of a new club in Witbank.

Howard Msiza said Thibela Academy Softball Club was officially established on Monday.

"It comprises students from Emalahleni and Middelburg's FET college," said Msiza, who is the club's manager.

He said softball in the province has not been as active as in other provinces, and he wished to develop the sport as far as possible. The team has registered at least 15 players and is keen to establish a women's team.

Menemene Molekoa, Mpumalanga Softball Association's general secretary, said Thibela is affiliated to them.

"Our association has 10 clubs affiliated with us. On Saturday we be hold an executive meeting in Nelspruit where we will talk about launching a league and setting a date to draw fixtures," said Molekoa.
