Two women, one a teacher and the other a school principal, were arrested in Gingindlovu in KwaZulu-Natal yesterday for buying furniture worth R190000 by fraudulently using the name of a Transnet employee
The two alleged fraudsters are said to be relatives of the Transnet employee.
The employee became aware of the alleged scam when she was told she had been blacklisted when she applied for a credit card last month.
Following a tip-off, the police searched a house in Gingindlovu and recovered some of the furniture. They arrested a 49- year-old school principal.
Police spokesman Jay Naicker said: "Police received information that more goods were hidden in another house in Mtubatuba, where they arrested another suspect, a 47-year-old teacher."
Among the goods found were a lounge suite, a sleeper couch, refrigerators, dining room suites and a home theatre system.
Both suspects were detained at Gingindlovu police station on suspicion of being in possession of stolen property.
Naicker said: "A man suspected of being the mastermind behind the scam is still on the run from the police. We hope that he will be arrested soon."
