Hundreds of mourners from Mmakaunyane in North West and Gauteng attended the funeral at the weekend of a 28-year-old mother and her children who were gunned down on Mother's Day.

Dimakatso Mosia and her two children Tiisetso, 6, and Masego, 4, were shot several times by Elias Baloyi of Maboloka near Brits before Baloyi turned the weapon on himself.

Baloyi, a security guard in Rustenburg, killed himself after killing his girlfriend and her two children.

He was buried at Maboloka at the weekend.

Councillor Thami Mabaso told mourners the council had been deeply touched by the tragedy.

He said they had launched a campaign to teach people about domestic violence to prevent more killings of women and children in Mmakaunyane.

"We are going to start our domestic violence awareness campaign in Mmakaunyane by making sure people who have domestic problems can get help in time.

"We have to make our province a safer place for everyone who lives here," said Mabaso.

Police spokesman Inspector Dan Thuwe said they would support the campaign.

Donations poured in from Neo Gift Funeral Services, the local taxi association, Moretele municipality, members of the community and from teachers and pupils from the Makgatlhanong Primary School where Tiisetso was a pupil.

The community came together to bury the victims of family violence.
