Those who understand the role of our institutions of democracy must rise to defend them against charlatans parading as experts.

Those who understand the role of our institutions of democracy must rise to defend them against charlatans parading as experts.

I was pleased by the Minister of Sport and Recreation's spirited defence of parliament against ill-informed comments by SAfm presenter, Jeremy Maggs, in his morning show on May 17.

Maggs showed flagrant disregard for parliament's legislation-making processes by suggesting that the National Sport and Recreation Amendment Bill being passed by the national assembly last Wednesday, was a fait accompli.

To suggest that a bill, to which there could still be proposed amendments, was a fait accompli, exposes Maggs' lack of understanding and his attempt to belittle parliament's decision-making function and our constitution.
