Former Kaizer Chiefs publicist Louis "Sprinter" Tshakoane is back in club football after he teamed up with controversial Mvela Golden League (MGL) side City Pillars.
Tshakoane agreed terms with Mathaithai as their marketing and communications manager for the 2007-08 season.
He has been tasked with promoting the team not only in Limpopo but also outside the province. Tshakoane's other assignment is to lure more people to back Pillars in their quest to win promotion to the Premiership in the MGL's Platinum playoffs next month.
His appointment was confirmed by Pillars' chief executive Peter Koutroulis yesterday.
"We concluded a deal with him on Tuesday night and we are happy to have a man of his stature on board," Koutroulis said.
"We are concerned about the poor crowds at Peter Mokaba Stadium [in Polokwane] and we hope Louis will help us to get more people when we play in the playoffs at this venue. We can't play in NkowaNkowa Stadium because the venue is currently under renovation."
Said Tshakoane yesterday: "I'm thrilled to be back to football because soccer is my life. My job is not only to focus on the playoffs.
"I'm also looking at 2010 World Cup because I want to ensure that Pillars contribute in terms of support for this big event.
"I want to inculcate the mentality of attending matches among our supporters and also to ensure that they sustain the attitude going to the World Cup."
Tshakoane, who was a darling of Chiefs supporters because of his antics, such as sprinting along the pitch and waving to the supporters before and during matches, has been in obscurity since he quit as the manager of the national Under-23 squad in 2004.
He was appointed marketing manager of Bafana Bafana after his long and successful stint with Chiefs in 1999.
Koutroulis refused to talk much about Pillars' appeal against the Premier Soccer League (PSL's) disciplinary committee decision to deduct a point from them after they were found guilty of fielding improperly registered player Vacas Ngwenya against Nathi Lions in Polokwane on February 18.
"What I can tell you is that we have lodged an appeal against the verdict and nothing more," said the temperamental former Mamelodi Sundowns team manager.
Zola Majavu, PSL prosecutor, said Pillars rejected the league's plea to have this matter resolved by an arbitrator.
"They argued that the matter is not urgent and that they were busy preparing for the playoffs. But as the league, we viewed this case as urgent."
The PJ Stars case is likely to be decided by an arbitrator this weekend after the Meadowlands side were docked 15 points by the league after being found guilty of fielding four defaulters in their encounters.
