Athletes who don't inform Swimming South Africa on time that they will not honour the SA Championships will not be considered for the final Olympic squad in future.
This was the message from Shaun Adriaanse, SSA's chief executive, at a media conference to announce the Olympic squad at Johannesburg Stadium on Wednesday.
This was prompted by the absence of Jean Basson, Roland Schoeman and Darian Townsend at the Telkom National Aquatics Championships in Durban last month. Adriaanse later confirmed the issue was solved amicably.
He said they only came to know that some swimmers had financial difficulties in terms of transport and others had to comply with certain arrangements with their universities to complete academic requirements.
