Maseko sets sights on 21km race

Richard Nkosi

Rising Mpumalanga Harmony Gold Club athlete Ntuthuko Maseko, 24, wants to make history by clinching the inaugural Sudwala Caves 21km Marathon.

The race takes place tomorrow at Sudwala, near Graskop in Mpumalanga from 7am.

"I have been preparing for this race for the whole week and I am going to be the first person to win it," said the in-form athlete, who won the Selati Three-In-One 32km Marathon last Saturday in a time of 1hr: 44min, 26sec.

Jurgen Halbich, race organiser, said they were going to accept only 200 runners as pre-entries.

"The race is historical in the province and it's a must for all athletes to compete in it. Runners will run about three kilometres into the caves and around the Screaming Monster," said Halbich.

Entries for the race are R30 and R10 for a temporary licence.
