Orchestral music enthusiasts should brace themselves for a feast of music at the Wozani "Discover the Orchestra Concert" on May 27.
The event will be at the Wits School of Education, in Parktown, and will be presented by the Johannesburg Youth Orchestra Company, pictured, which has been a musical home for many children for the past nine years.
Since its inception in 1998, the company has experienced phenomenal growth, expanding from a single group into several flourishing youth orchestras, with more than 1500 children experiencing the joy of making music together.
The Johannesburg Beginner Winds and Strings ensemble will introduce young people to the instruments, sounds and sections of wind and string orchestras.
The audience will have fun and some youngsters who aspire to be conductors will get a chance to wield the baton.
The Johannesburg Symphonic Voices will perform after the demonstrations by the ensemble. This will be followed by performances by the Johannesburg Youth Orchestra, the Symphonic Wind Band, the Chamber Winds and the Strings and Jazz Orchestra.
