Sepeng drugs ban over

Olympic silver medallist Hezekiel Sepeng has been reinstated for all athletics competitions with immediate effect, Athletics South Africa (ASA) announced yesterday.

Olympic silver medallist Hezekiel Sepeng has been reinstated for all athletics competitions with immediate effect, Athletics South Africa (ASA) announced yesterday.

The 800m ace had tested positive for the prohibited substance, Norandrosterone, in an out-of-competition test on 21 February 2005. And after having carefully reviewed all the evidence presented in his case, the ASA Tribunal found Sepeng guilty of having committed a doping offence and suspended him for two years on 11 May 2005.

According to the IAAF rules, Sepeng has completed the mandatory four out-of- competition tests during his two-year ineligibility period, and tested negative. Sepeng is therefore free to compete. - Sowetan
