Taxi operators have been obliged to pay Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) contributions for their employees for the past two years, but few have done so, said the labour department. Taxi operators who have ignored the UIF rules should make use of the South African Revenue Service (SARS) small business tax amnesty that ends on May 31. "Taxi employers can register with the UIF without being punished for non-registration of the past," UIF spokesman Kgomotso Sebetso said. - BuaNews
