Canada's world triathlon junior champion Kirsten Sweetland beat the heat and a class field to collect 50 World Cup points and $12 500 (about R87000) in prize money.

This happened at the Richards Bay BG Triathlon World Cup at the Zululand Multi Sport Club in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, yesterday.

Sweetland, 18, who finished 12th at the Ishigaki World Cup held in Japan last month, covered the 1 500m swim in 18min:57 sec, and found herself in top company in the 40km cycle stage. - Sowetan
