Schools are institutions of learning and patience is required when dealing with issues related to class boycotts.

All stakeholders including government, school governing bodies, parents and students should be involved in seeking solutions to end such strikes.

North West's government should, therefore, now tread carefully. The threat by the education department to shut down 12 schools in the trouble-torn Khutsong township will not help resolve the crisis sparked by the incorporation of the area into North West.

Its residents do not want to be incorporated, saying they were not properly consulted.
